“Soil is not a chemical soup, it’s a living a system, a community of organisms.” ―Louise Fresco
Synthetic formulations of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium (NPK) are applied in forms that can be directly absorbed by plant roots to enhance growth, but they diminish the soil microbiome and run off with heavy rains, thus polluting our waterways. Over time, there is a decrease in soil microbial activity, a degradation of bacterial and fungal life, and crops become dependent on synthetic NPK.
In a healthy system, there are abundant resources of nutrients existing in our soils, air, and bedrock. It is the job of soil microbes to scavenge these nutrients and convert them into plant-available forms to support growth and yields. When synthetic nutrients are applied, the nutrient cycling pathways, managed by microbes, shut down and the microbes are essentially out of work. Their workload decreases, therefore their activity decreases, and they become lethargic, sick, and often, dead.
EnSoil Algae™ is a powerful live cell algae biostimulant increasing soil microbial activity and nutrient availability in the soil. Many growers have been able to reduce their NPK usage, thus saving money, increasing yields, and improving crop production. When EnSoil Algae™ is applied, live algae cells bring soil microbes and nutrients directly into plant roots, restoring the natural jobs of soil microbes to scavenge and cycle nutrients for plants.
The below image from Dr. James White at Rutgers University shows an EnSoil Algae™ cell with soil bacteria actively fixing nitrate inside. Soil bacteria convert nitrate into usable forms of nitrogen for plants and the EnSoil Algae™ cell is helping to deliver the soil bacteria and the Nitrogen directly to through the root hair.
